Well, it’s time to get back to whatever passes for reality. It’s been over a week since you know who got elected and it’s pretty much going as expected. But the world continues to turn, music continues to be released and this week we’re spoilt for choice. 6lack and Rex Orange County make a big arrival while A Tribe Called Quest return and GAIKA mashes up his latest project for a surreal short film worthy of his dystopian dancehall. Tune in, but don’t drop out just yet.

6LACK – ‘Just In Time 4 The Weekend’

6lack looks set to be the tail end of 2016’s major breakout artist. His latest single ‘Just in Time 4 The Weekend’ is a woozy, OVO-worthy dose of night-time RnB. You wish you could pull to this song this weekend.

Bad Sounds – ‘Wages’

Bad Sounds find their way into some classic Kung-Fu movies in the video for new cut ‘Wages.’ It is the perfect accompaniment for the band’s blur-esque childishness.

GAIKA– ‘Another Hole In Babylon’

Riding high off the release of his Wrap debut ‘Spaghetto,’ GAIKA comes through with a new short film that gets deeper into the EP’s themes. Chunks of GAIKA’s dystopian dancehall float over chopped and screwed clips of a dinner party, Zawe Ashton dancing and a medieval knight. Avoid if you’re feeling fragile.

The Veronicas – ‘On Your Side’

The Veronicas have enlisted Orange Is the New Black star Ruby Rose for their new video. Written, directed and starring Rose, it’s a suitably dramatic tale of a lesbian romance and addiction.

A Tribe Called Quest – ‘We The People…’

A Tribe Called Quest have a new album out. It’s full of the socially conscious, kick-ass hip hop that made them icons in the first place. This the first song on the album, start here then listen to it all.

Rex Orange County – ‘UNO’

A Surrey-based teenager tipped for big things, Rex Orange County dropped his debut single yesterday and we’re already intrigued about what’s to come. Play this to your friend who’s really into Lil Yachty to show them you know more about rap.

John Legend – ‘Love Me Now’

Our NOTION 74 Prom King delivers a heart-warming cut from his new album. Look at how perfect John Legend’s life is, it makes you sick.

The two best artists in Ontario connect once again for this stellar IV cut. The video has some serious Dungeons & Dragons vibes going on which given those Stranger Things-worthy synths on the track is very appropriate.

Common – ‘Black America Again Remix Ft Pusha T, Gucci Mane and BJ The Chicago Kid’

Anything that features both King Push and Guwop is gonna be good. Through Common’s vital civil rights anthem into the mix and you might have the perfect musical antidote to Trump.

Drake – ‘Sneakin’ ft 21 Savage’

Drake’s latest attempt to convince everyone he’s well ‘ard is somewhat undermined by the pink fur in this video. Cam’ron can pull it off, but next to a man with a crucifix tattooed on his face (21 Savage for those who don’t know) it’s about as scary as that polo neck in ‘Hotline Bling.’
