The Heatwave are responsible for some of London’s best dancehall and bashment parties. The brains behind Hot Wuk and a soundsystem in their own right, they’ve been spreading heat across the capital and beyond for years. Now that winter has set in properly we could use some of that heat in our lives so we enlisted the duo to select their ten hottest dancehall cuts for this week’s 10Trax playlist.

Vybz Kartel – ‘Mhm Hm’

“The latest in a very long line of Kartel singles that dominate our dances only weeks after being released. There’s still no one close to him when it comes to concepts, lyrics and consistent hits.

The Heatwave ft Mr Lexx & Keida – ‘Walk Out Gyal’

One of the tunes we recorded in Jamaica earlier this year, so it brings back memories of Caribbean sunshine.”

Aidonia – ‘Yeah Yeah’

“Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah. Biggest tune in JA right now.”

RDX – ‘Shake Your Bam Bam’

Perfect festival tune, referencing classics by Sister Nancy and Pliers that literally everyone in the world has raved to at some point in the last 25 years.”

Popcaan – ‘Addictive’

“The sing along when Popi played this at this first ever London show earlier this year was insane!”

Vybz Kartel & Likkle Miss – ‘Taxi’

“Hard riddim, hooky melody and short sharp staccato from Kartel on the verses. Immediate dancefloor filler.

Spice – ‘Sheet’

“Big favourite of Hot Wuk dancer Ramario… involves an actual sheet laid out on the stage and a willing volunteer from the crowd. Quite saucy.”

Alkaline – ‘Pretty Girl Team’

“Distinctively intricate melodies and lyrics from the artist who’s probably learned most from how Kartel has dominated dancehall.”

Chronixx – ‘Likes’

“Amazing voice and great message. Plus it features the original foundation style of Puppa Chronixx when he shouts out all the dancehall innovators towards the end of the tune.

Stylo G – ‘Yu Zimme’

“Stylo was promoting this tune when we literally bumped into him in Jamaica last January and we heard it in every dance. That night we recorded a tune together, will be dropping early 2018.

The Heatwave play Annie Mac’s Lost & Found Festival next 3-6 May in Malta alongside headliners Jamie XX, Four Tet, Diplo and J Hus. For more info and tickets please visit lostandfoundfestival.com
