Astrid Andersen brings casual luxury to AW17

Astrid Andersen presents a lavish take on contemporary menswear for her Autumn/Winter 2017 collection

Astrid Andersen’s AW17 showcase for London Fashion Week Men’s was the epitome of contemporary luxury. Taking place at the Topman Showspace on Saturday 7th January, Andersen’s catwalk flowed from one glorious tracksuit to the next. Inspired by ideals of opulence and exaggeration, models strolled past each one another each sporting more gold than the last. Quilted bomber jackets, silk leopard print joggers and velvet trimmed sweatshirts, all with modern silhouettes involving cinched waistlines and longline outerwear feature heavily in the collection.

Andersen argues that there has been a recent decline in the exuberance and luxury of men’s fashion, and hopes that her current collection will ensure that such lacklustre offerings cease to exist. As a result, Andersen’s AW17 consists of luxurious velvets and plush faux furs paired with intricate lace designed by Sophie Hallette. The colour scheme for AW17 ranges from luxe gold shades to deep plums and decadent caramels, all adding to Andersen’s aspiration of grandeur. Models for this collection included Ashton Gohil, Jun Sung and Iago Santibanez, with styling and casting by Elgar Johnson and the incredible soundtrack courtesy of James Massiah.
