Betsy escapes the country in psychedelic new video

Betsy went from high fashion to rural Wales in pursuit of her pop career and the risk is starting to pay off

Betsy isn’t your typical small town to big city escapee. Having designed her way out of Wales and into a job at Balenciaga in Paris, via Central St. Martins, Betsy was all set for a career in fashion. The only problem was, she wanted to sing. So, rather than try and pursue her music on the side, she chucked in her pencils and took a caravan in her brother’s back garden, committing herself to a life of Welsh isolation once again until she made it as a musician.

Roughly three years later she’s out the caravan and well on her way to becoming one of the UK’s most exciting alt-popstars. The dramatic ‘Waiting’ is her latest offering. A punchy 80s inspired track, Betsy combines elements of soul, disco and house with her distinctive vocals to create an uplifting track that manages to avoid the saccharine trap of much contemporary pop. The video, premiering today on Notion, keeps that balance in check too – full of neon lights and hometown glory but given a suitably surreal twist through its cast of characters. Check it out below.
