On Wednesday 14th June an incident occurred in London that rendered families homeless and killed a total of 79. The incident occurred due to a fire that took place in a block of flats within the 24-storey Grenfell Tower building in North Kensington in the early hours of the morning. Since the tragedy occurred, thousands of Londoners have donated clothes, food and shelter in order to help aid the homeless residents, most of which have not only lost their homes, but the entirety of their possessions.
Today, a number of artists got together to support the victims in a slightly different way. Simon Cowell enlisted the vocal aid of 50 musicians, including Jorja Smith, James Blunt, Stormzy and Rita Ora on a single titled ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water.’ The song acts as a modern revival of the Simon & Garfunkel classic and open letter to the Grenfell residents beginning with a rap from Stormzy reassuring them “I refuse to forget you.” The #ArtistsForGrenfell charity single has its own website where listeners can make donations directly to the residents following their download of the single.
