A hardcore punk-inspired rapper, producer and director with an incredible DIY ethos, Denzel Himself makes a point of doing everything, well, himself.
You produce your songs, you write and direct your videos. Why is having total creative control important to you?
It’s important because my work is intertextual and cross-sensory. No-one else can facilitate what’s in my mind better than I can. I’ll outsource when and if necessary, but for the most part I’m happy working alone.
What does ‘breaking through’ mean to you?
I know what it means, but that’s not of too much interest to me.
What are you looking forward to most at The Great Escape?
I’m just happy to bring my world and what I represent to such a well-respected event. Excited to share what I do with more people!
Where’s the best place your music has taken you?
Magazines and festivals are great but hearing how my work has positively affected people is probably the best place for me, that’s why I do it.
