GOOSE are Belgium’s premiere electro-punk band. While they may be relatively unknown in the UK, for almost two decades, they’ve been rampaging across Europe, picking up a cult following that includes Soulwax and fashion photographer Willy Vanderperre. In fact, Vandeperre is such a fan in fact that to honour the band’s fourth album What You Need (out this Friday) he teamed up with the group to produce a short film chronicling the life of GOOSE. For those unfamiliar with his oeuvre, Vanderperre has shot for the likes of Calvin Klein, Prada, Dior and These New Puritans so safe to say when he decides to make a short film about you, it’s a big deal.
Part music video, part art-house documentary, the film, premiering on Notion today, follows GOOSE in rehearsals and on stage, eschewing narrative for a holistic approach to documenting the group. Vandeperre set out to capture not just GOOSe but the energy and dedication that surrounds them and their fans. Shot in and around their home-town rehearsal space in Kortrijk, the films splices intimate live footage with clips of the group rehearsing and wandering the streets, cast in a mix of grainy black and white and moody red and blues. The result is the perfect introduction to GOOSE whether you’re a die-hard fan or complete newcomer to the group. Watch below.
What You Need is out Friday April 7th, GOOSE play the Camden Assembly on April 13th.
