If there’s one thing that can that can divert us away momentarily from music its food. Preferably accompanied by fantastic company, great wine and loads of lols. Like a boozy Sunday roast with your best mates. That’s the kind of environment London’s Mam Sham try to create with their hilarious immersive dining experiences.
Each event ran by foodie duo, Maria K-Georgiou and Rhiannon Butler, follows a hilarious narrative that works its way into all aspects of the evening from the live comedy through to the food and the decorative installations. So far, they’ve taken on subjects such as the Christmas festive period, Valentines Day and back to school in their ultimate quests to create hilarious funny feasts. Now they’re embarking on their most ambitious evening yet all in aid of an excellent cause.
On the 12th April, they take over Oval Space with an all-female line-up to raise money for the Refugee Women’s Centre which supports women, families and minors in Dunkirk and Calais. Serving up a dose of lols ready to make even the coolest East Londoner laugh out loud are Shindu Vee, Twayna Mayne and Desiree Burch, huge acts on the live comedy circuit. Masterchef finalists Three Girls Cook have created a three-course meal based on the evening’s theme and the night will be topped off by DJs until late which include GCDJ and Born & Bred and raffle prizes from the likes of Pam Pam.
As well as raising money to help others, the aim of the evening is to unite women across the creative industries and spotlight a whole range of talent. At a time where female acts are severely underrepresented from the majority of music and comedy lineups, events like these are so important in encouraging other females artists to pursue their craft against the face of lack of diversity.
