He may be best known for his outlandish fashion sense, recent role in Netflix’s ‘The Get Down’ and penchant for ‘deep’ thoughts on Twitter, but it looks like Jaden Smith will be focusing on music for the time being. Last night, the model and actor shared his latest single and video, ‘Fallen.’
Premiered via Kid Cudi’s Twitter, the video sees Smith stumbling around the abandoned wild west town of ‘Calabasas’ intermittently performing the track and vomiting as he goes. The video reportedly takes place in the year 1867, not that you’d know that from Smith’s thoroughly 2016 outfit, although those self-lacing Nike Air Mags and that brown vest may well be a Back To The Future reference. The track itself is a soulful ‘indigo’ style hip hop cut, reminiscent of the likes of Raury with some Travis Scott vibes coming through on the hook as well.
The Marty McFly-worthy garms aren’t the only reference in ‘Fallen’ either. The visuals and track are a clear homage to Jaden’s friend and collaborator Kid Cudi, with the album art for his debut album, Man On The Moon: The End of Day, appearing alongside Smith as he dances on top of a mountain midway through the video. It’s probably no coincidence the whole thing takes place in ‘Calabasas’ either, given a certain Mr. West’s recent fondness for the California town.
‘Fallen’ is taken from Jaden Smith’s mysterious upcoming project ‘Syre.’ Watch /listen below.
