Josh Caffe is a staple of the underground dance music world. A producer on the liminal boundary between house and techno and the head of Night Sheen records, you’ll have seen him on Boiler Room, heard him on NTS and maybe even caught him live at Panorama bar.
Earlier this year he released Black Magik Dawn, an EP of dark dance music that sits comfortably in the murk between house and techno. A seven-song collection, it saw Caffe working with a group of other producers, enlisting their talents to unlock new dimensions to his sound. Initially created as a full album, Caffe decided to split Black Magik Dawn into two EPs and today he’s sharing the first taste of BMD Part 2, title track ‘Black Magik Dawn’. Produced by Hannah Holland, it’s a brooding track, with Caffe’s chanting vocals at centre stage
Caffe is also premiering the video for the track on Notion today. Directed by Dominic Montague it combines oscillators, found footage and clips of porn into a projection broadcast onto a masked Caffe, adding to the dark retro-futuristic vibe of the track.
