The last few years have birthed some incredible female singers in the UK. From Ray BLK to Jorja Smith, Poppy Ajudha to Dua Lipa, the ladies have been killing it on the vocal front. Now it’s starting to look like 2018 is the boys turn to shake things up. We’ve already had promising starts to the year from Ebenezer and Col3trane, and now newcomer Louis III has stepped into the ring. Gaining support as far and wide as Radio 1Xtra, Radar Radio and BBC Introducing, his debut single ‘Fever Thoughts’ has all the makings of a crossover hit. Imagine Mura Masa (it’s becoming more apparent by the day how much his debut album has shifted the pop landscape) producing for Channel Orange-era Frank Ocean, and you’d be somewhere close to its sound.
This morning he’s premiering the music video with Notion. A candid and colourful affair it focuses on Louis III himself pulling off some moves and generally flexing to the track. Overlayed with retro visual effects and shot in a mix of grainy film and sharper digital it’s like getting a glimpse into Louis’ bedroom as he works on the track, intermittently dancing and mirroring the song’s frustration. Speaking about the video, Louis said “I collaborated on the video for Fever Thoughts with my mate Jasper Cable-Alexander, who is a crazy talented director/photographer currently assisting Rankin. I tend to have a visual in my head when I write songs, and ranted my vision for the video to Jasper on a night out over a few too many beers – thankfully he was down to put his creative touch on it.”
