The sounds of the 90s are firmly back in vogue. The last few years have seen young women from across the world take up the torch lit by TLC & Destiny’s Child, reclaiming the music and style of 90s RnB and flipping it for a new generation. Still in its infancy, the revival is on the verge of giving birth to some huge stars and burning the brightest right now is Mabel.
The daughter of genre-defying singer Neneh Cherry and generation-defining producer Cameron McVey, music followed Mabel throughout her life as her family moved from Spain to Sweden and eventually settled in London. Now 21 years old, Mabel is riding high on the release of her first EP Bedroom and is getting ready to follow in the footsteps of her 90s icons. For her first ever cover in Notion’s 76th issue, she tells us how about she found empowerment in RnB, embracing her sexuality and embracing the highs and lows of fame.
