Ebenezer is becoming an unstoppable force in British music. Having teamed up with fellow rising star Col3trane last week for new single ‘Language’, he’s starting the week with another triumphant collaboration, this time with Belgian DJ and producer The Magician. Sat in that sweet spot between dancehall and R&B, ‘Las Vegas’ is a classic ode to overdoing it, balanced somewhere between morality tale and party anthem. The Magician’s textured instrumental provides the perfect home for Ebenezer to flex his neon-tinged vocals, while the subject matter and Eb’s general unflappability hint at the early work of The Weeknd. The more you hear of Ebenezer on tracks like this the harder it is to deny that he’s the most obvious contender for young Abel’s crown.
Premiering today on Notion, the track’s accompanying video mixes found footage of the eponymous city with general party footage, all cast in strange colour-contrasting effects. It’s somewhere between a celebration of the hedonism Las Vegas has come to represent and a tripped-out nod to the Fear and Loathing mythology of excess and irony equally associated with the city.
