It’s a golden time for British underground music. As wave after wave of new talent pushes the sound of the UK forward, its past glories are being rediscovered and injected with a new lease of life. With this has come the return of veteran producers and artists and few are enjoying as much of a revival as MJ Cole. Having already worked with the likes of AJ Tracey and Avelino recently, he’s preparing for a big 2018 with the release of a new EP Pictures In My Head.
Out today it features the title track and five remixes from the likes of High Contrast and Owari. To mark the occasion, MJ Cole has released a kaleidoscopic video for the title track, directed by animation mastermind Nik Hill and created by a team of female animators across the globe. The results are just as ambitious as you’d expect, with lyrics from the track represented in the imagery throughout, beds are conjured into existence, diamonds float in the sky, speakers pulse and strange structures are conjured out of household objects. the track itself is a crisply produced 2-step garage cut with pulses of synths, staccato drums and twinkling piano.
