Mr Hudson is a name most associated with the noughties hip-hop era. From working with Kanye West on 808s and Heartbreaks to lending his vocals on Jay-z’s single, ‘Forever Young, having taken a (very long) musical vacation, this year he’s making a steady comeback. After appearing on Vic Mensa’s single ‘Almost There’ in June, the pair is back with new single ‘Coldplay’.
Having premiered yesterday on Beats 1, (December 5th), this sombre number pays homage to British rock band Coldplay. A sad Mr Hudson sings, “twisted silent, please decipher/ we can still try, too young to die,” over a high-pitch piano riff. In response to his gripping lines, he told Zan Lowe the track is “a sincere, very simple little song about one of those little painful transition moments where you’re not sure what’s going to happen.” Meanwhile, Mensa turns lyrics from Coldplay’s iconic love ballad ‘Yellow’ into a rap sensation. Starting with a slow flow, his demeanour frantically heightens as his line draws to a close. Listen to the new single below.
