Following two major career moves including headline sets at last year’s AFROPUNK festival and her autobiography I’ll Never Write My Memoirs released in 2015, Grace Jones is set to tick off yet another musical milestone. The Musical of My Life is a documentary produced by filmmaker Sophie Fiennes, uncovering both the “private and public realms of the legendary singer and songwriter” as revealed by the British Council. The film is also rumoured to include footage shot at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre from the previous year. In terms of release dates, UK and Ireland dates have yet to be announced, however, rights to the biopic have been acquired by Picturehouse Entertainment ahead of its release and are scheduled for this year.
Director Sophie Fiennes has previously worked alongside Slavoj Žižek for The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema and when asked about the doc, revealed that working with Jones has been “an extraordinary journey.” Rumour has it, Fiennes and Jones have been working on the upcoming film for over a decade.
