A firm favourite of celebrities and esteemed fashion folk alike, Olivier Rousteing has quite the reputation as a designer and creative genius. Taking over as Creative Director of Balmain back in 2011, aged merely 24, the French talent has gone from strength to strength, now rising to the challenge of designing a new sports-concious collection for NikeLab’s ‘Summer Of Sport Presents; Football Nouveau’.
Surprisingly, Rousteing is actually a big football fan, having played the sport with encouragement from his father from a young age. He is the perfect fit for this collaboration, with his classic lines and elegant aesthetic, he brings a new sense of opulence to the traditional sportswear silhouette.
Included in the collection are a series of black and gold items, including embroidered sneakers and long-line jackets. Olivier has thought of everything, even a hoodie which doubles up as a dress.
“For women, a dress like a jacket I can imagine girls wearing during the day or going to a club and wearing a tank top underneath and nice heels,” Rousteing says.
With footballer and world-wide sporting icon, Cristiano Ronaldo as the muse behind the collection, Football Nouveau is the perfect amalgamation of talent and slick design appeal, creating a collection that sets up the wearer for being just as successful off the pitch, as on.
