The Morning After

A dreamy beauty story about lying under the duvet reminiscing about the night before

You know the scene. You wake up a little starry-eyed from the night before, still semi-clothed  in your cute party dress, with traces of shimmer on your skin. The sun is up too high for it to be early but whatever, it’s Saturday, there’s no getting you out of bed just yet. You think back to getting home, legs aching from dancing into the small hours, was it 3am or 4am? You reach for your phone to check the time and scroll through your messages, hazy memories flooding back with each text you read.

The Morning After is a beauty story that encapsulates those fuzzy mornings spent in bed, recovering after a big night, Netflix and chilllling. The result is a dreamy, intimate feeling editorial that puts the focus on natural beauty. Beauty Director Claudine Blythman explains hows how she kept the makeup barely there to create the appearance some had been left behind from the night before, while the models’ hair was also kept natural. “I’ve always wanted to do a beauty story that celebrates Afro hair,” Blythman says. “For decades, both in fashion shows and editorials, models with Afro hair usually had to hide their natural hair. Now models Karly Loyce and Lineisy Montero with their natural Afro hair front Chanel and Celine campaigns. We worked with the amazing hairstylist Marcia Lee @ Caren Agency who is a master at styling Afro hair on and off the runway and who created these looks for us.”
