22-year-old Sam Knowles, aka Karma Kid has had us hooked on his dreamy deep house for the past four years, earning himself a set of fine followers since the get-go, and with Annie Mac a loyal supporter from the start. He now joins Jake Norman, otherwise known as producer Armeria, for a disco-tinged new act, Shy Luv. Having already made their mark with their first EP, they come through with a sublime new cut, demonstrating their production and songwriting capabilities.
Beginning with its provocative percussion and thudding bass, ‘Joyrider’ is a song that seems to cruise through, gliding through its first verse and refrain, climbing to a spectacularly cosmic climax. ‘Life is so easy riding with someone good’ Knowles sings on the chorus, marking his vocal debut and carrying the sense of drowsy exhilaration felt throughout the track, a sonic expression of euphoria. ‘Looks through hazy eyes, head on your thighs, I lay under pink skies’, it’s a song drunk on love and destined for the club.
