It’s been two months since SOPHIE returned from the wilderness with ‘It’s Okay To Cry’. Now, newly signed to Transgressive Records and Future Classic, she’s given us another taste of her much-anticipated album Whole New World, sharing her new single ‘Ponyboy’. True to form it’s a boundary-pushing, genre-defying track complete with the producer’s signature experimental flare. However ‘Ponyboy’ leans harder into industrial experimentation than her previous work, with hard-hitting bass and distorted samples.
SOPHIE also shared the video alongside the release. The visuals open with a retro pink and purple projection reading ‘Pony’ which vibrates in sync with the track’s heavy bass; then, SOPHIE appears on stage sporting a pink wig, a fresh pair of high-top Doc Martens and a sparkly silver choker. Neon lights flash as SOPHIE and FlucT’s Monica Mirabile and Sigrid Lauren work their stuff in time to the new single. It’s a high-octane teaser of what’s to come from the artist.
‘Ponyboy’ is available to purchase and stream now. Watch the music video below.
