The retailers making Christmas jumpers cool

With the UK spending over £260 million pounds each year on festive knits alone, it's fair to say us Brits love them. Here's our favourites.

Many people think that, by their very nature, all Christmas jumpers have to either be incredibly cheap or incredibly tacky but that’s not necessarily the case. In the past few years, we’ve started to see plenty of high street designers putting their spin on seasonal knits that offer a more subtle solution to your usual festive gear.

Okay, sure, they’re probably going to be slightly pricier than the bog-standard chunky red number emblazoned with a huge mugshot of Santa himself, but the sheer quality of material that many of these garments boast often justifies the investment.

And when you consider how much we as a country are already willing to splurge on Christmas jumpers, it seems logical to get one that will stand the test of time.  A research study from Voucherbox says that we Brits traditionally spend a whopping £262.8 million on festive knits alone.

A Christmas jumper is for life, after all, which is why we’re here to run through some of the best high-end festive options out there.

Wish lists at the ready, people…

Scotch & Soda

Amsterdam based brand Scotch and Soda bring us a sweater that’s a little more cool than Christmassy. The mixed wool blend long-sleeved jumper features geometric shapes, a fresh palette and the brand’s markings on the front. Not a reindeer in sight.

Get it from John Lewis, available online.

Of course, it isn’t just the pattern that makes a jumper seem more festive, it’s also the shape and John Lewis know this better than most. We’re big fans of their Merino roll neck range. While it’s not specifically intended for the Christmas season, these roll necks definitely emit a cheery Yuletide vibe, and are versatile enough to work well with all manner of outfits.

& Other Stories

One of the chicest festive jumpers on the market, & Other Stories retro embroidered knit can be worn all winter, not just on Christmas Day. It’s fitted shape works well with high waisted jeans or skirt.

Zara are one of the high street’s best bets for a great Christmas jumper that won’t necessarily break the bank. What we like about their winter collection is that they offer many festive tops that aren’t over the top Christmassy – but have just enough colour and glee so that you get the message.
We like this cropped Jacquard sweater.

ASOS is no doubt to the go to destination for fast fashion. They’ve embraced the festive season again with a range of festive clothing, from earrings to jumpers and even Christmas onesies. If you’re looking for a Xmas jumper that is wearable throughout the holiday season look no further than Adolescent Clothing’s clever Elfie Selfie sweater in pink.

Who said Christmas jumpers had to be so bright, sparkly and garish? Definitely not Bellfield, anyway. Their black and grey long sleeved crewneck with stitched mountain pattern is awesome, and makes a festive statement all of its own.
