Whoever The Trp are, they make ridiculously good RnB

The Trp take RnB into the next dimension on new single Soda.

Last time Notion heard from The Trp we were premiering their Jasmine-featuring single ‘u bit.’ The mysterious trio has been going for a few years now and is split between the UK and New York, not that that sheds any more light on who they actually are. Their songs arrive in anonymous emails, full of odd turns of phrase and third person references. Specialising in what you might call Acid RnB the group have got stranger and more intriguing with every release they’ve put out so far.

New single ‘Soda’, premiering today on Notion, is no exception to that rule. What starts as a hyperactive fusion of Aphex Twin-worthy blips and bleeps and RnB grooves gives way to smooth, funk-influenced rap verses and off-kilter vocals. Taken from their upcoming SOAK EP, the whole thing has a very Anderson .Paak meets Andre 3000 meets Kaytranada vibe, which, obviously, we’re totally into. Listen to it below.
