Xander Zhou showcases his futuristic feeling AW17 collection at London Fashion Week Mens

Xander Zhou presented his AW17 collection at London Men’s Fashion Week on Friday 6th January. The collection, entitled ‘I’m Carrying a Secret Weapon’ drew inspiration from Zhou’s Asian heritage, resulting in an array of oriental silhouettes and oversized outerwear. Zhou’s AW17 collection looks at the concept of ‘identity in relation to others’ and explored this through his menswear-only offering, with the catwalk featuring up and coming models such as Sonny Hall from Anti Agency LDN. The order of the show effectively captured the transition from ‘boy’ to ‘man’ with the looks becoming progressively more sartorial, while still retaining an aspect of modernity through injections of bold colour and less traditional fabrics.

Key themes within the collection included layering, asymmetric silhouettes and extremely textured fabrics in the form of crumpled ties and boxy cropped shirts as well as sleek leather outerwear and distressed denim. Overall the collection appeared to be fairly futuristic, with elements of modern tailoring and frequent usage of versatile materials, presenting a newly distorted view of conventional utilitarian looks. Styling of Zhou’s AW17 army was courtesy of Anna Personen from ATOMO Management with casting by Walter Pearce of Midland Agency.
